Malcolm Turnbull: Brand Differentiation Disaster

Malcolm Turnbull is creating a serious brand marketing problem for the Liberal Party. The Liberals might need to do something about this and do it soon.

Malcolm Turnbull’s strong leaning to the political left is creating a huge brand marketing problem for the Liberal Party.

The basic problem is one of brand differentiation. The Liberal Party is not differentiating itself from the political left. It is not creating a clear difference between itself and the Labour Party.

And if the Liberal Party is just another left wing party then why should anyone vote for it?

This leftist Liberal Party certainly does not appeal to right wing voters. Conservatives and libertarians are not at all happy with what the Liberal Party has become. And they are leaving the Liberals and going to other more authentic parties.

But why should left leaning voters support the Liberals? They already have left wing parties. They have the Labour party. And if they are on the far left then they have the Greens.

Why would they vote for the Liberal Party even if it leans to the left? They will never believe the Liberals will be truly left. They will always see it as the rich capitalist party. They might believe that they were able to infiltrate it and turn it to support their own agendas but they will never vote for it.

So, who is Malcolm Turnbull’s leftist Liberal Party likely to appeal to? The Liberal Party is turning away its loyal supporters but it is not stealing supporters from the left.

This cannot go on indefinitely if the Liberals want to win elections. There eventually comes a point where relying on the Labour party to make itself unelectable will not work. In the last British election, Jeremy Corbyn and the British Labour Party looked completely unelectable and yet they did frighteningly well.

The problem the Liberals have is that this sort of brand image marketing is very important. It is fundamental to the way the public sees the Liberal Party.

So, if Malcolm Turnbull and his leftist lackeys are allowed to continue damaging the Liberal brand in this way then there is the danger that it will not be possible to undo the damage before the next election.

And if he is allowed to keep damaging the brand then there might be serious long term damage. There might already be serious long term damage.

Therefore, there is good reason to consider that the Liberals should do something. And do something soon.
